DataCamp is moving towards a more modular product experience for learners by allowing chapters to be taken in isolation for customized learning paths.

To achieve this modularity, you should avoid including references that “pin” a lesson or chapter to a larger piece of content. This would include avoiding the following language:

  • “In this chapter”

  • “Later on in the course”

  • “In the next chapter”

  • “In the previous chapter”

  • “Recall our discussion on X”

Of course, being completely modular will not be possible as your course will always flow linearly. The goal is to aim for the smallest module possible, with a module being a lesson or a chapter, and remaining agnostic when referencing another piece of content.
